Development and Code

The track Code and Coders is all about the programming for Drupal - PHP you need to know, Drupal patterns, Drupal structure, tools and how to use them - and the people developing Drupal.

Working with Media Assets

One of the major improvements in Drupal 7 is the addition of a way to have a shared media asset library with the Media module. While a lot of work has been done to work with some of the major media providers, sometimes Youtube, Vimeo, Brightcove, etc. are not enough. Learn how Media integrates with other modules such as WYSIWYG. Learn how you can write custom plugins to connect to other media providers.

You'll learn:

  • The current status of the Media module
  • The hooks the Media module exposes
  • How to write custom Media plugins

So You Want to Make a Map?

Displaying data with a map can help people understand how it all fits together and how it can directly impact them and where they live. Learn about the open source tools that can make your data come alive. Learn how to decide the best mix of technologies and platforms to create the ideal experience.

You'll learn:

  • Tools and technologies to create maps
  • Resources to help visualizing your data
  • Common challenges you may face

Maps for Lands Management

This session will be focused on a suite of modules and work-flows that
we have developed to assist in the lands management business case.
Lands management is conducted by local government and First Nations
when tracking, assessing and responding to development applications
(think forestry cut block applications and fish farm float tenures).

We won't spend any time describing the business case beyond this
introduction; instead we'll jump right into code examples and demos.

Customizing the Apache Solr search experience

Apache Solr, a standalone search server that provides high performance full-text and faceted search, has quickly become the standard choice when building effective search interfaces in Drupal. Solr is used to power search and navigation features with millions of documents on sites like Instagram, eHarmony, Netflix, Zappos, Instructables, and reddit. It's powerful and it works well with Drupal, but it really shines with some customizations.

OMG DDoS - Drupal lessons learned the hard way

A distributed denial of service attack can be a painful and costly thing these days. With #hacktivism on the rise who knows when and if your Drupal site could soon be a target.

I'll cover

  • Rapid expansion plans
  • CDN configurations
  • ModSecurity tricks
  • Drupal best practices
  • Other high traffic events

Since this is an advanced session, I'll fire up the terminal, turn on some VMs, and really get into some practical examples in 'real life' live demo form.
